Before you start

The preview requires your own translation service API key and workspace ID. After entering them, try a short conversation to check your connection, microphone and translation. The plan screen is a preview only: there are no active payments, trial time limits or automatic charges.

Mac: installation and permissions

Use an Apple Silicon (M-series) Mac with macOS 14.2 or later. We recommend at least 8GB RAM, a stable connection and headphones. This is a recommendation, not a tested minimum memory requirement.

1. Download and fully extract the Mac package. Move the application to your Applications folder.
2. Open Muliao and enter your translation service API key and workspace ID.
3. Allow microphone and screen / system audio recording permissions when prompted. Restart the app if requested.
4. Choose the source language, caption language and audio source, then try a short conversation.

The current package has not been notarized by Apple. Verify its source and follow system prompts without disabling system security. Contact IT for managed devices.

Windows: recommendations and first launch

These are recommendations, not performance guarantees. Hardware, company policies and audio drivers can affect your experience.

1. Extract the entire ZIP into a writable folder such as Downloads or Documents.
2. Open the ML-Windows-x64 folder and double-click ML.exe. Do not run it inside the ZIP or copy the EXE alone.
3. In Windows privacy settings, allow desktop apps to access your microphone, then enter your translation service settings.
4. Try the demo and microphone translation first, followed by computer audio, mobile sharing and a Teams test call.

Everyday use does not require administrator privileges. Installing a virtual audio driver, changing company device policies or allowing local sharing may require administrator or IT support. Allow the required connections only on trusted networks; do not disable your firewall.

The Windows package is not publisher-signed. Existing validation covers packaging and cross-platform code checks. Test audio capture, virtual audio calls and OCR on your own Windows device before relying on them.

Phone: receive meeting captions

1. Connect the computer and phone to a mutually accessible local network. Guest Wi-Fi and client isolation may block access.
2. Enable caption sharing in Muliao on Mac or Windows to show the meeting QR code.
3. Scan the code with an iPhone or Android phone, open the browser page and choose an available caption language.
4. To receive translated audio, tap the playback permission button when prompted. Captions work without sound.

You do not need to install a mobile app or enter an API key on the phone. The QR code joins the current meeting; it is not an app download code. The connection ends when sharing stops.

Audio, text and service keys

Muliao sends audio over the internet to your configured translation service. It is not an offline translator, and your provider’s data handling rules also apply. Anyone with the sharing link can view the current captions; share it only with participants.

The 0.8.1 prototype can save meeting text locally on the host without saving audio recordings. You can export or delete text from meeting history. Service keys use operating-system encryption. Meeting document scanning runs locally, while enabled glossary entries are used in translation requests.

Obtain the appropriate participant permissions for audio processing, sharing and document use. This page describes the current preview. Dedicated privacy and service terms will be provided before paid accounts launch.
